For 13 years, Ken Butkiewicz (A Dudley Resident and Volunteer) has been on a mission.
To build one of the greatest assets in the Town of Dudley whereby residents and visitors could walk the old abandoned rail lines in Dudley soaking up the beauty and tranquility that Dudley has to offer. Hundreds of people have walked the trail – often just called the “Dudley Rail Trail.” – but few know the struggle and sweat that was put into its creation.
There have been no parades… No self aggrandizement… Just Results…. from a simple man just trying to make a difference.
Within that time frame, the West Dudley. Quinebaug River Bikeway and Trailway has been constructed. A Trail that begins on Mill Road and meanders through the forest and farmland of West Dudley. Crossing over West Dudley Road, the trail then takes you on a beautiful walk next to the historic Quinebaug River into Southbridge.
Now, Ken is in the final stages of trying to complete the massive undertaking.
The Completion of the New Boston – Perryville Section of the trail.

For 13 years, Ken has petitioned Legislative Reps for funding and their support. They have always been supportive and the project would never have progressed to its final stages without that support. We are deeply appreciative of the past support.
The final phase of the project which involves ripping up the final rails, grading the trail and most importantly, the engineering and reconstruction of the French River Bridge by Schofield Avenue will be the toughest.
Ken has put in a request for the final $60,000 to the State for FY19. Without that money… the project will not be completed.
To be Continued….
