~ Conservation Department-Janet Malser Grant
The Dudley Conservation Commission was recently awarded the Janet Malser Humanities Grant to improve four Conservation Restricted land parcels in Dudley. The project includes redefining trails, posting trail markers, construction of four footbridges and creation of a Dudley Trails Map booklet. The four selected parcels are Ardlock Acres, New Boston Road, Baker Pond and Shepherd Hill Estates. The project will:
- provide safer, accessible nature trails
- create awareness of the trails through printed maps and online
- reduce/eliminate the prohibited use of motorized vehicles on Conservation Restricted land parcels
Within the next few weeks, we will be locating boundary pins and marking them on each land parcel and recording their locations. If you would like to help with this activity, please contact the Conservation Commission office by email: conservation@dudleyma.gov, or call 508-949-8011, option 1.
~ Fire Department
The Dudley Fire Department is working to assemble volunteers for their Community Emergency Response Team, called CERT. Volunteers would receive free training in CPR and other basic disaster response skills. After training, CERT volunteers would be called upon to aid with setting up and running shelters, mass inoculation centers, and more. Please see the brief description below.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community
Fire Capt. Paul Konieczny is conducting an informational meeting at the fire station the morning of January 28. Pre-registration is required to ensure ample space and materials. Attendance does not obligate you to join the team – this is informational only.
If you are interested in learning more about CERT and the importance of this service in our community, please call Paul at 508-949-8040.
